Get legal help in Alberta

Free legal help

Community legal clinics and student legal clinics offer free legal support. You must meet eligibility criteria to access their services. Contact the clinic nearest you for help. If you are not sure which clinic is closest to you, contact any one and they will direct you to the one that best suits your needs. When in doubt – just call!

Alberta wide

Court and Justice Services

Free Government of Alberta service that provides a range of resolution and court supports for people involved in legal disputes.

Alberta Law Libraries

Free legal information and resources available at courthouse libraries across Alberta. Some services are also available online.

Alberta Legal Information Centre

Free legal information, support and referral services in French, in person in Calgary or Edmonton or remotely. 

Workers’ Resource Centre

Free help for Alberta workers about employment standards, employment insurance, WCB, human rights, AISH, disability insurance, CPP-disability and sexual harassment.  

Edmonton

Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC)

Volunteer lawyers give 30 to 45 minutes of free legal support for issues about families, work, immigration, debts, social benefits and more. 

Student Legal Services (SLS)

Law students can take on your file, give legal information and help you through the court process. They can represent you as an agent in the Alberta Court of Justice for family, criminal, civil and traffic issues. They can also help with issues before the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service (RTDRS) and the Alberta Human Rights Commission.

Civil Claims Duty Counsel

Volunteer lawyers give 30 minutes of free legal support for civil issues in the Alberta Court of Justice. Available at the Edmonton and Calgary courthouses.

King’s Bench Court Assistance Program

Volunteer lawyers give 30 minutes of free legal support to self-represented litigants with civil issues at the Court of King’s Bench. Available at the Edmonton and Calgary courthouses.

Calgary

Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG)

Volunteer lawyers give 30 to 45 minutes of free legal support for issues about families, work, immigration, debts, social benefits and more.

Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie Clinic
